Umi recently lost her husband Sidi in Malaysia. Every time she goes to visit his grave, she feels that she is not walking alone.
A stray orange cat, whom the neighbors affectionately call “Oyen”—what cats of that color are called in the country—appears and accompanies her without anyone calling him. He is not her pet, as she herself clarified on social media: he is a cat that simply lives in the area. But he knows the way by heart and never goes to the wrong grave.
Afi Rezeki Basri, a Threads user, recorded several of those walks and uploaded them over several days, the last one on July 30. Umi said that the cat’s presence brings her comfort at a time that still hurts. Sometimes affection needs neither an owner nor words, just a cat that decides to stay.
