A stray cat wandered onto the pitch during an Aston Villa night training session in 2024. No one chased it away. Omar Khedr, then 18 years old, crouched down, tilted his water bottle and waited. The animal stood on its hind legs and drank straight from the spout, unhurriedly, as if it knew that young man was not going to move.
Khedr, born in Alexandria and signed that same summer from Egyptian club ZED, posted the photo on his Instagram without imagining what would come next. Within days, the image went around the world. Thousands of comments agreed on one thing: he had scored the best goal of his career without touching a ball.
No one ever found out what became of the cat. But the scene remained as a reminder that, even in professional football, there is room to stop for someone who cannot ask for help with words
