There is someone at this church who probably gets more pats than the priest himself 😂.

It all began when Johnny, a stray puppy, showed up at the chapel of Saint Anne and Saint Joachim in Barretos, Brazil. He was looking for something to eat and a place to take shelter, but ended up catching the attention of Father Luiz Paulo Soares, who decided to take him in.

Johnny grew so fond of the priest that he began following him everywhere, even during Mass. Since he behaved so well and the parishioners were delighted to have him around, Father Luiz decided to have a little altar server outfit made just for him.

And so the famous “cãoroinha” was born, a fun Portuguese play on words combining dog and altar server.

Now Johnny accompanies the priest during religious services and also takes part in processions, weddings, and baptisms. Sometimes he sits quietly beside the altar, and other times he takes the opportunity to greet those attending and receive the pats he deserves.

The loveliest thing is that Father Luiz also cares for other stray dogs and makes the most of Johnny’s popularity to show that these animals have so much love to give if someone gives them a chance 🥹.
