
Before uploading her graduation photo to social media, this student did something almost no one does: she covered, one by one, the faces of her hundreds of classmates with emojis, because she did not have their permission to expose them publicly. The image, in which she appears smiling surrounded by giant yellow faces, went viral within hours. What began as a personal gesture sparked a global debate about digital consent: do we have the right to post photos with strangers without asking them? In several Asian countries, that practice is already regulated by law. The rest of the world, upon seeing this photo, realized that perhaps we should all ask ourselves that question before hitting publish.
