Regina Valkenborgh captured eight years of the Sun with a can. In 2012, at Bayfordbury Observatory in the United Kingdom, she installed a homemade pinhole camera: photographic paper inside a beer can with a small hole, without lenses or electronics. David Campbell recovered it in September 2020; the image recorded 2.953 solar trails.
The high arcs correspond to summer and the low ones to winter; the gaps mark cloudy days. A structure built during the exposure also appears.
The image surpassed the longest exposure known until then, at four years and eight months. A can protected the paper for eight years and one month.
