They had been working together for only a few weeks.
Brittany Macon was 26 years old. Her sister was 24. They worked behind the counter at a Subway in downtown Atlanta, steps from Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The owner, Willie Glenn, called them “model employees”.
On Sunday, June 26, 2022, shortly after 6:30 p.m., a customer came in to order a sandwich. According to police, something upset him so much that he unleashed his anger on the two women. Deputy Chief Charles Hampton Jr. said there had been a dispute over too much mayonnaise. Apparently, the attacker was unhappy with the amount of mayonnaise added to his sandwich. After the argument, he proceeded to pull out a gun and fire it at the sisters.

Officers found both sisters shot. Brittany died at the hospital. The other sister, 24, was in critical condition. Her 5-year-old son was inside the restaurant.
That same night, police arrested 36-year-old Melvin Williams after receiving a tip from the community. He is charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. His address, according to the booking record, is right across from the Subway. He was denied bail.

Hampton summed it up this way: “This was a tragic event that should never have happened”.
That Sunday, a 26-year-old woman lost her life while working her shift.
