A 13-year-old girl survived one of the most astonishing accidents ever documented in a medical case after falling onto a fence and becoming impaled by a metal post approximately 45 centimeters long.

The girl was climbing a fence when she lost her balance and fell directly onto the post. Emergency services had to separate the metal structure from the fence before transporting her to the hospital.

Although she had intense chest pain and felt dizzy, she arrived conscious and stable, breathing normally.

An X-ray showed the enormous metal object inside her chest. A subsequent CT scan determined that the object had entered through the upper chest and passed through the mediastinum, advancing until it came very close to the right side of the heart and the pulmonary hilum.

The situation could have been fatal.

The doctors performed emergency surgery via a sternotomy to remove the object and determine which structures had been damaged.

And then they discovered something astonishing: the post had passed through the mediastinum without perforating the heart’s ventricles or the lungs.

According to the doctors, a metal bar crossing the post perpendicularly would have prevented it from continuing toward vital structures.

After the operation, the teenager remained under observation in intensive care. The tubes placed in her chest were removed two days later, and by the following day, she was back to her usual state.

She was discharged, and according to the medical report published in Cureus, she recovered completely without permanent sequelae.

A fall lasting just a few seconds could have ended in tragedy.

But the X-ray shows something even more incredible: a 45-centimeter post passing through her chest and stopping just centimeters from some of the most important structures in her body.
