Rebecca Townsend was 17 when she wrote three goals on a piece of paper.
Travel to Spain. Kiss in the rain. Save a life. She accomplished the first two before graduating from high school in 2015, without suspecting that the third would come true in a way no one could have imagined. On July 2 of that year, after watching fireworks in Danbury, Connecticut, she was walking alongside her friend Ben Arne when a car came straight at them. She pushed him out of danger and managed to tell him to hurry.
Ben survived with serious injuries. Rebecca did not. When her family went through her belongings and found that list, they understood that in the most difficult second of her life, she had unknowingly fulfilled her most generous wish.
