Ingrid del Carmen Barrera Rantul was 53 years old and lived in Loncoche, in the La Araucanía region. On Sunday, June 15, 2026, she was found dead at her home on República and Porvenir streets, with more than 80 stab wounds and multiple fractures, the most serious in the neck. The direct perpetrator was a 17-year-old teenager, a high school classmate of her own daughter.
What the Prosecutor’s Office reconstructed in the following days is of a coldness that is difficult to process. The victim’s daughter, also 17, allegedly planned the crime together with her boyfriend, the same age. Together they hired their classmate to carry it out and paid him 60,000 Chilean pesos — less than 60 dollars. She left a window open to facilitate entry. Once the murder had been carried out, the couple returned to the property and reported finding the body: that, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, was part of the plan. The three defendants turned themselves in voluntarily and admitted their participation.
Regional prosecutor Roberto Garrido described the act as contract killing and specified the motive: the mother opposed her daughter’s romantic relationship. The young woman faces parricide charges; her two accomplices, aggravated homicide. The investigation was left in the hands of the PDI Homicide Brigade based in Temuco.
