As if it had escaped from a deep-sea nightmare, a disturbing fangtooth fish appeared stranded on a beach in Japan, leaving those who found it bewildered.
The creature, identified as a fangtooth fish (Anoplogaster cornuta), looked like something out of a horror movie: its dark body was crowned with enormous sharp fangs that protruded from its jaw like razors.
Although it usually lives between hundreds and thousands of meters below the surface, where absolute darkness reigns, for reasons still unknown it ended up on the shore. The strange discovery quickly went viral and sparked fascination with one of the ocean’s most terrifying and rare inhabitants.
