Alexia, Doug, and Jake have spent 15 years building a family together. Four children, a home, an entire life shared. And although the law only allows the union of two people at a time to be registered, they decided to celebrate what they already were: a marriage of three.

There were more than 100 guests, a DJ, a rented tuxedo, and a carefully chosen white dress. There was a father-daughter dance, a groom-and-mother dance, a cake cut by all three, and vows exchanged while they looked into each other’s eyes. No one there needed a legal document to understand what they were seeing.

Their daily routine also reflects that union: Doug and Jake leave early for work, while Alexia organizes schools and medical appointments through her own business. Their income goes into a shared account, and major decisions, such as buying a business, are made by all three. Just a month ago, they formally adopted a teenager who came into their lives through foster care. The family has faced mockery and cruel comments from strangers, but after 15 years, none of that has managed to separate them.
