Pascualina did not know that the world was collapsing on her.
When the 7.2-magnitude earthquake shook Catia La Mar, in La Guaira, this morrocoy turtle fell from a sixth floor along with the remains of the building. She was buried among glass, appliances, and concrete blocks, without light, water, or food. She spent more than 30 days like that, while outside Venezuela counted its dead and searched for the missing.
On July 28, volunteer Alan Rodríguez found her during one of his search efforts and recorded everything. Pascualina emerged uninjured and returned to her family, as if the time beneath the rubble had left no mark on her. The video has already surpassed 200,000 likes, and it is not hard to understand why: amid a tragedy that left thousands of victims, this turtle became proof that something, however small, can withstand anything.
