Cody Zylks only wanted two things that day: to vaccinate his dog Lilly against allergies and say goodbye to Remy’s body, his other 16-year-old dog who had just died.
At Southern Utah Animal Hospital in Cedar City, the staff confirmed Lilly’s name and the reason for the appointment before taking her to the room. Minutes later, Dr. Zachary Francisco asked Cody if he was ready. He said yes, not knowing they were talking about something else: the euthanasia of a cat that never arrived had been scheduled for that day, and the staff mixed up the syringes. Lilly died because of an error that no one noticed in time.
Amy said the veterinarian called her afterward to apologize, but she felt indifference in his voice. According to Cody, the only solution they offered was to “buy a new dog”. Since then, no one from the hospital has contacted them again. 🐾💔
