On Friday, October 2, 2026, a waitress at OASIS Phuket Airport in Thailand found an envelope full of euro banknotes inside a closet. No one had missed the money that morning.
The guest had already checked out and was in Koh Samui. He didn’t even know he had forgotten the money. The hotel’s owner, Guy Petcharat, managed to locate him and notify him personally. According to Petcharat, the tourist flew back to Phuket to collect it. The amount found was approximately 3.300 euros (around 3.800 dollars).

After recovering the money, the French tourist left Petcharat a tip of approximately 3,8 dollars, equivalent to around 0,1% of the amount recovered.
On social media, many users called the gesture insulting and stingy.
Petcharat saw it differently. He said that returning what a guest has forgotten is part of doing the job well, and the tourist “seemed very happy”. Was that enough gratitude, or are people right to be upset?
