Ayden Hayes was 15 years old and wore number 4 on his back.
He was a sophomore and played football at Milford High School in Texas. His parents, Donald and Amy, had watched him run for a touchdown just a week earlier, never imagining it would be the last time. Over the weekend, Ayden went out with friends on his ATV along a rural road in Ellis County. Around midnight on Sunday, the family’s phone rang with the news no parent ever wants to receive.

Now, according to his parents, Ayden has been declared brain-dead. He was kept on life support so his organs could be donated, and his body will remain at the hospital until that process is complete. After that will come the funeral. Donald described the donation as his son’s final heroic gift and said it means his legacy lives on. Amy, amid the pain, remembered the simplest thing: “He was my baby”.

In the midst of the tragedy, the Milford community is coming together to say goodbye to him. There will be a vigil at the city park, and those who knew him describe him as a genuinely sweet kid and a bright light. Today, Ayden no longer runs across the field, but his decision could give a new chance to those waiting for a transplant.
