Every day, in the same spot along the path, a wild fox waited for Ram.
Ram was a Labrador who had lost his sight, and Kon, the fox, seemed to have decided that he would never walk alone again.
It all began in 2019, when the dog’s owner left his job in the city and moved with him to a mountain village in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, where he had grown up. Ram had advanced cataracts, and the pace of city life was no longer right for him. Over the following months, he went blind, and on one of his walks he came across two wild foxes. One of them showed up again, and again, and again.
At first, Kon watched from a distance. Then he walked alongside him. When the years began to weigh on the Labrador and his strength started to fail, the fox was still there, and his owner took him for walks in a stroller, with Kon trotting alongside.
Ram died in June 2022, at the age of 19. Even so, Kon kept looking for him, even making it to the door of his home, trying to understand.

Today, Kon has a family of his own, but his owner still runs into him on nighttime walks or in the yard. They both miss Ram very much, and that is why his owner sits beside Kon to share a little more of the sweetest memory the illness left him.
