Lisa Tecklenburg was in the shower after a run when she felt something strange in her left breast. It was the fall of 2016, and that indentation would change everything: breast cancer. Before starting treatment, she asked her oncologist to freeze her eggs. She wanted to become a mother someday, although the doctor was not convinced.
Five weeks after starting chemotherapy, in the midst of the hardest time of her life, she met the man who would become her husband: Eric Edelman. They married 363 days after meeting, in February 2018, when she had already undergone chemotherapy, radiation, two mastectomies, and reconstruction.
What followed was a seven-year race against time: frozen eggs, embryos created with hope, and in 2022 they found the woman who would carry their daughter in her womb. Louise was born in January 2023. Today, Lisa has no evidence of cancer, ran an Ironman one year after finishing her treatment, and has proof that sometimes life gives you what it almost takes away.
