Emily Blunt was sitting in a Brooklyn café when she uttered the phrase no one expected from a promotional interview.
She was talking about her character in “The Girl on the Train”, a woman trapped in alcoholism, but ended up exposing something much more uncomfortable.
“A woman is called a drunk or a slut, while a man is called a partygoer or a player”, said the British actress, then the mother of two young daughters, Violet and Hazel, with her husband John Krasinski as silent witnesses that September morning in 2016.
Blunt held nothing back: she said she had seen women and men drink excessively up close, and that it is equally ugly in both cases. But social judgment never weighs equally.
“I don’t think women should be seen as less sexual than a man”, she concluded, arguing that a woman may not want children, may not want to get married, and that that is okay too.
