A woman nearly lost a finger because of a poorly planned marriage proposal: “I thought I had a smaller finger”

“Isn’t it exciting?” Iona Hadaway thought as she forced a ring that was too small onto her finger. What started as a romantic dinner at an Italian restaurant ended in a rush to the emergency room.

Jacob Bugliarello, 20, proposed with great excitement, but Iona, 23, was so caught up in the moment that she ignored the fact that the ring barely made it past her knuckle.

After trying to remove it with liquid soap and even string, her finger began to swell dangerously. At the hospital, doctors were clear: if she had waited until the next morning, she could have lost her finger due to lack of circulation.

“Now I’m engaged, but it doesn’t feel real because I don’t have my ring,” she said after doctors had to cut the ring off to save her hand. Fortunately, the wedding is planned for 2027, giving them time to get the size right.
