A year ago, I was 21, working at Home Depot… I saw people my age on yachts, in skyscrapers; and thought: “What am I doing wrong?”

Exactly one year ago, Trinity Tatum cried before starting her shift at Home Depot.

She was 21, and her phone showed her a version of the world that didn’t belong to her: people her age on yachts, in skyscrapers, carrying handbags she could never afford. “What am I doing wrong? How am I going to succeed?”, she wondered every morning, trapped in that silent crisis so many young people know but few confess out loud.

No one told her that the pain had an expiration date. Twelve months later, Trinity won Love Island USA, one of the most-watched dating shows at the moment, and told Flaunt magazine about it: now she has a boyfriend she describes as incredible, a support system that holds her up, and offers from people she didn’t even know existed. The girl who cried while comparing herself to strangers online ended up becoming the story others look at with the same question she used to ask herself: how did she do it?
