According to science, women with big thighs live longer

Thigh fat is not what you think. Several studies—including one published in the British Medical Journal with more than 2,500 participants—found that women with larger thigh circumference have significantly lower rates of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and premature death. 🔬

The key lies in where fat is stored. The fat that accumulates in the hips and thighs (called peripheral or subcutaneous fat) acts as a “metabolic cushion”: it absorbs excess blood sugar, reduces markers of chronic inflammation, and releases hormones that protect the heart. It is the opposite of visceral abdominal fat, which does represent a real health risk. ❤️

In other words, that body that popular culture often criticizes has been protecting you from the inside out for years. Science took a while to say it—but it has said it. 💛
