For a long time, Lisa Ann believed that her family’s rejection had an obvious explanation: her career in the adult film industry. However, over the years she came to a different conclusion. “I thought they treated me that way because of my profession, but I understood that the problem went back much further”, she confessed in an interview.
The former adult film star said that her father stopped speaking to her when she was just 16 years old. They did not have contact again until he suffered a stroke, when Lisa was already nearing 40 years old. From that moment on, they tried to rebuild their relationship, although she admits it was a “strange and very difficult” process.
What affected her most was discovering the contrast between her parents. While she found photographs of herself everywhere in her father’s home, there was not a single image in her mother’s. “She acted as if I had died”, she recalled, saying that it caused her deep emotional pain.
Lisa also revealed that, when she tried to talk about the difficult episodes she experienced during her childhood, her mother would steer the conversation toward her work in adult films, avoiding the true source of her wounds. She even said that her family hid her grandfather’s death from her to prevent her from attending the funeral, as they did not want to give the impression that they publicly accepted her.
Today, after years of therapy and reflection, she says she has made peace with her past. Although her story was marked by abandonment and misunderstanding, she says she finally understood that her worth never depended on the approval of others.
“For years I thought it was my fault. Today I know that I simply did the best I could with the life I was given”.
