A 19-year-old knocks on the door of an apartment in Mexico. Without warning, without rehearsal, with a ring in his hand. His intention was to marry the most beautiful woman in Mexico in 2002.

On the other side is Marisol González, seven years older, with an established career in television. The young man is Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, still far from becoming a world champion.
“I was afraid because he was growing”, she confessed years later. The relationship had its ups and downs: “We were good for a year, and then we kept breaking up and getting back together”.

Marisol also admitted that they were both too jealous to sustain something so formal at that age. The ring remained in her hands. She tried to return it, but Canelo refused to take it back.
Today she is married to former footballer Rafael Márquez Lugo, and he is a super middleweight champion. Of that apartment in Mexico, only a fond memory remains, and a ring that no one wanted to keep.
