Heather Clark heard her son’s heart again. Nearly three years after Lukas’s death, she placed a stethoscope on the chest of Jordan Drake, the girl who received the organ, and heard his heartbeat during a meeting between the two families.

It was in January 2016, at Phoenix Children’s Hospital in Arizona. Lukas had died in June 2013, at just seven months old.

Jordan was four years old and needed a transplant because of a congenital heart defect; her mother, Esther Gonzalez, was also there.

Lukas’s donation saved three lives, including Jordan’s. In the girl’s chest, Lukas’s heart continued to beat, and Heather was able to hear it again.
