Anant Ambani, son of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, has revived an ambitious plan to relocate 80 of Pablo Escobar’s hippos from Colombia to his private sanctuary in Gujarat, India.

These animals, descendants of those brought in during the 1980s, have multiplied rapidly in the Magdalena River and are now considered a serious environmental issue. In fact, some Colombian authorities have proposed culling them to control the population.

In response, Ambani is offering a plan worth around $4 million to relocate the hippos and prevent their killing, giving them a permanent home alongside thousands of rescued animals.

However, the proposal has sparked controversy, as the sanctuary is privately owned and has faced criticism over its practices and lack of public access. 🫣
