Penelope Spheeris is 80 years old and has a theory she’s been holding onto since filming ‘Five,’ in 2011.

The director of ‘Wayne’s World’ said on the podcast ‘The Moynihan Report’ that, at the end of a day’s work, the assistant director asked her to sit in a chair. The crew gathered around, and a producer from Echo Films, Jennifer Aniston’s company, approached with a gift box. Spheeris thought the gesture was sweet. Inside was a sex toy with rhinestones glued on that, according to her, “wasn’t even usable”, and she had to open it in front of everyone.

For Spheeris, the intention was to humiliate her. Her reasoning: when ‘Five’ was nominated for the Directors Guild Awards, Aniston arrived with an identical box and, according to the director, said it was for Marta Kauffman, co-creator of ‘Friends’. But she acknowledges Aniston didn’t hand her anything in person and that the gift “must have come from her”. “I’m going to get sued for this, but oh well”, she admitted.

A source close to Aniston told the Daily Mail that the actress doesn’t remember giving that gift and wondered why there was no card. A cruel joke or a misunderstanding from 15 years ago?
