Mostafa Al Maleki is 18 years old, and that day he simply did what he was taught at home.
In Dearborn Heights, Michigan, an elderly woman was walking very slowly, with visible effort in every step, trying to get home. Dozens of cars passed by her without stopping. Mostafa did stop. He got out of his car and walked beside her until he accompanied her the rest of the way.
The person who witnessed the scene was none other than the city’s mayor, Mo Baydoun, who recorded the moment and later said that gesture represented exactly what his community means to him. Mostafa put it simply: he wanted to trust his instincts, in the hope that the small act would inspire others like it. His parents taught him to do the right thing, and his coworkers confirm it: Mostafa is always like this.
