Billy Shelby didn’t forget the fall he had witnessed months earlier, so he decided Opal wouldn’t make that trip alone again.
Opal Zucca, 88, fell in January while trying to bring her trash bin up her driveway. Billy, a Waste Management worker, was there when it happened: he helped her up and stayed with her until the ambulance arrived.
Since that day, every week he himself brings the trash bin up to the house and, over time, the two ended up forming a friendship.
Months later, a Ring camera captured one of those encounters. In the video, Billy can be seen walking hand in hand with Opal, telling her “God bless you, sweetheart”, complimenting her hair and calmly accompanying her before returning to his truck.
Opal’s daughter shared the footage on Facebook to thank him for the gesture, and the video ended up surpassing 100 thousand views.
Billy, 50, later said that he was simply being himself and that he liked making people smile.
What began with a fall ended up becoming a weekly routine, an unexpected friendship, and an enormous relief for Opal’s entire family.
