KJ Apa did not share it to generate pity. He shared it like someone who can finally say the truth out loud.

On the Wildmen podcast, the 27-year-old New Zealand actor, known for playing Archie Andrews in Riverdale, recounted a night in Vancouver during quarantine: he ordered several Big Macs, McNuggets, fries, and a milkshake at 2 in the morning. He ate it all. Then, in a desperate attempt to stop the binge, he urinated on the food and vomited it up. Even so, he ate some of it again. He also recalled that at 18 he looked for discarded donuts in trash bags, and that during filming he ate all day only to lock himself in his trailer to vomit.

Dylan Sprouse, his former co-star and co-host of the podcast, linked it to a form of self-punishment. Apa summed it up differently: he said he has an addictive personality and abuses everything that makes him feel good. Today, he has been sober for a year and a half and is preparing to star in the film ‘Jimmy’.
