Kennedy Musonda scored the only goal of the match, gave Power Dynamos a 1-0 victory over Nkana in the Zambian Super League, and was chosen as the best player of the game. Well-deserved prize, applause from the stadium, cameras all over him. Then came the official recognition: five crates of eggs. Two for the goal, three for being MVP. The sponsor was KeepSafe Farms Enterprises, and apparently the company took the concept of “reward” very literally. 🥚

The video of the moment—Musonda posing with his peculiar trophy in November 2022—went viral worldwide in January 2023 and sparked a huge debate about the conditions of African football compared with the millionaire circus of the European leagues.

But the most unexpected chapter was led by Lucas Gomes, an 8-year-old boy living in Spain who felt so outraged by the unfairness of the prize that he wrote a letter to the Zambian footballer. The story went so far that the Spanish Ambassador to Tanzania ended up presenting Musonda with a medal on the boy’s behalf. A primary school kid gave the striker what the league did not know how to give him: real recognition. 🏅
