The entrance to this exhibition at the Royal Academy in London has no turnstile or guard. It has a naked man and woman standing face to face, and the only way through is to squeeze between them.
People on social media were quick to weigh in. Many just asked “why?”, some talked about harassment, and almost everyone made a joke of it. “It would be like going through a human turnstile”, one user wrote. Another wondered: “Do I look them in the eyes as I pass?”. And one more quipped: “It would be the closest I’ve been to action in a while”. Telegraph critic Alastair Sooke confessed to his own fear: he was so scared he didn’t want to kick their toes.
For anyone who’d rather avoid the ordeal, there’s another entrance. But the original is part of an exhibition by Marina Abramović, the 77-year-old Serbian artist, who is reprising a 1977 piece called Imponderabilia.
Which way would you go in?
