The first struck at 6 in the evening on June 24, 2026 with a magnitude of 7.2, and before anyone could react, the second —7.5— hit Venezuela with a force not seen in more than a century. In Caracas, entire buildings disappeared from the map. In Chacao, a 22-story building was reduced to rubble. Maiquetía airport closed. La Guaira was declared a disaster zone. The provisional toll: 164 dead and 971 injured.
Amid that chaos, a home’s security camera recorded something disturbing in its stillness: an elderly couple who simply could not get out. With no option to evacuate, no help in sight, with the walls shaking around them, they did the only thing they could do: they held hands and waited. The ground moved, objects shook, and there they were —motionless, together— while outside Venezuela was splitting in two. 😶
The house held up. They survived. But the video leaves a question that does not go away easily: how many other couples like this went through that same night without any camera recording them? 😶
