The flooding was so violent that it left no time to react: the structure disappeared beneath the current while more than 100 Indian tourists who were in the area remain missing. Local authorities are working against the clock to find them, but the terrain and the force of the water are complicating every search attempt.
India has already activated its emergency response: a C-130 aircraft from its air force departed today with humanitarian aid, and a C-17 carrying more supplies will join it tomorrow. As rescue teams move forward, the question no one can answer yet is how many of the missing will be found alive. 🙏
