For days, he received messages on WhatsApp from a profile pretending to be Gremio coach, Luis Castro. It talked to him about his training sessions, told him it noticed his progress, that his dedication could be seen on the pitch. The Colombian, far from suspecting anything, replied with the confidence of someone who believes their own coach.
When the relationship already seemed solid, the impostor made his move: he asked him for money for a social project. José transferred 22 thousand reais without hesitation. The same scammer later contacted Argentine defender Walter Kannemann, although with him he used another tactic: he insisted that he arrive earlier at training.
