The animal had gone days without eating, and people were its only salvation.

A 2 year old polar bear, malnourished and weakened, approached the area of the Arctic settlement of Dikson, Russia, to ask for help. Its tongue had gotten stuck on the sharp edges of a can of condensed milk.

The man who received her understood the message of distress, but although he tried to remove it with his own hands, he discovered that the metal was deeply embedded in her tongue. Understanding the seriousness of the situation, he immediately alerted the environmental authorities.
The call reached a team of experts and veterinarians from the Moscow Zoo, who urgently traveled to the area on a flight. After locating the bear, they managed to anesthetize her from a safe distance using a dart.
With a brief procedure, they managed to successfully remove the metal.

But that was not the end of it. Before setting her free, the rescuers provided her with a large amount of fish so that she could regain her strength without needing to hunt immediately.
The incident was striking because of the trust shown by “Monetka”, as the bear was nicknamed.
Although the encounter between the animal and the humans was moving, it exposed the serious pollution problem that exists in the area and how other species might not have the same luck as the bear.
