He called the police, who confirmed the obvious: the elderly man was at fault. The damage was around $14,000, on a car worth $620,000. Anyone would have demanded every cent.
Gan only asked for 190 yuan, about $26, and a sincere apology. Nothing more. He himself will pay for the full repair out of pocket when he returns the car. On Chinese social media, no one is talking about the scratch. They are talking about Gan.
