Flight PD444 had already left the gate. It was close to taking off from Victoria to Toronto on the night of August 6, 2026.
Then the crew noticed something: a small child was standing on his seat and there was no way he would accept the seat belt. His companion tried to seat him, the flight attendants tried too, but nothing worked.
Without all passengers secured, the pilot had no other choice: he returned to the terminal.
That is when the real problem began. Getting the minor and his companion off the plane, removing their luggage, and redoing the paperwork took so long that, by the time everything was ready, it was already nearly 12:30 a.m. — the exact time the Victoria airport runway closes.
The entire flight was canceled, and dozens of passengers had to reschedule their trip for the following day.
Porter Airlines apologized, but was clear: safety is non-negotiable, not even for a frightened child. 🛫
