Andrea Bocelli did not walk that time. He advanced on his knees.
It was in May 2018, at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, in Fátima, Portugal. The Italian tenor arrived with his wife for the centenary of the Marian apparitions and, before taking the stage to sing, he stopped at the small chapel of the apparitions. There, on his knees, he completed an entire circuit of the site in silence, in a gesture of reverence that only those who carry something very deep inside them can make.
Later, he explained it himself on social media: he said that every mother represents Mary, that every womb that gives life brings her back among us. He said that in places like that shrine, the air fills with her presence, so much so that every breath becomes a prayer. It was not a priest or a theologian who said it. It was a father, a husband, a man who sings for the whole world and who that afternoon, in Portugal, simply wanted to kneel.
