Ángelo has difficulty moving one of his arms. He could have chosen to ask for help on the street. Instead, every day he stands in front of a car wash in Bávaro, Punta Cana, and works.
“I prefer to hustle rather than beg”, he says as he soaps up a vehicle with the same dedication as any other worker. His goal is not anyone’s compassion: it is for the customer to leave satisfied with the service.
A regular customer at the place recorded him without his knowledge and shared the video with a phrase that sums it all up: “Not all young people are out there doing that; with a disability like this, he is honestly earning his money”. He did not ask for alms. He asked for an opportunity, and turned it into a trade.
