Anne Hathaway said it plainly on CBS Mornings: “I think we have Rihanna to thank”.
The 43-year-old actress, pregnant with her third child with Adam Shulman, was talking with Gayle King about the looks she has worn on red carpets, baring her belly and wearing daring pieces like low-rise jeans with a cropped silk top by Prabal Gurung. King reminded her that she never used to show her belly, and Hathaway immediately pointed to where the change came from.
According to her, seeing what Rihanna did with maternity fashion gave her the push she needed: “She changed the game. I realized that I just needed to use my imagination, go out and have more fun”.
The two had already crossed paths in the film Ocean’s 8, though this time the connection was from afar: one styled her baby bump with a pink Chanel coat and a red jumpsuit at the Super Bowl, and the other took note.
