The iPhone Duo has just arrived and already has its first viral controversy, although this time it has nothing to do with its US$1.999 price.
One of Apple’s promotional images began circulating on social media because the fingers of the person holding the enormous foldable phone look strangely long. Some users even digitally removed the device from the photograph to show what the hand looks like on its own.
The result sparked a flood of memes and accusations against Apple: could it have digitally lengthened the fingers to make the Duo look more comfortable to hold with one hand?
The suspicion is especially striking because Apple promotes the phone by emphasizing that, when closed, it is “compact and very comfortable in the hand”. The Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display, so its size has already raised questions about how comfortable it is to use with one hand.
That said: so far, there is no evidence that Apple altered the fingers. The theory was born exclusively on social media, and the proportions could also be explained by the angle, perspective, lens, or image processing.
Apple has yet to comment on the accusation.
For now, the iPhone Duo has a giant screen, a giant price… and apparently fingers that are just as giant. 😂
