Lucas Trejo, Argentine defender for Club Sport Marítimo de La Guaira, was with his team in Caracas on June 24, 2026 when two earthquakes measuring 7.5 and 7.2 struck Venezuela. His wife, Yanina Maranella, and their children, Aarón and Ainhoa, were at the Cumanagotto residential complex, in Playa Grande, La Guaira. The building was reduced to rubble.
Trejo left the training camp immediately. He arrived in La Guaira and began removing concrete blocks with his own hands, along with other footballers who left their clubs to help in the search. Hours before learning anything, he posted on social media: “I know nothing about my family. Pray for them. I want to believe they were not there.”
On Saturday, June 28, after 74 hours of searching with scarce equipment and communications cut off, the three bodies were found. The earthquake has already left more than 1,430 dead and 50,000 missing across the country.
