Sir Darius Brown was only 8 years old when the world was more difficult for him than for other children: speaking was hard for him, as was moving his hands precisely. His sister Dazhai taught him to sew as therapy, never imagining that those clumsy stitches would eventually become his life’s purpose.
In 2017, after learning that Hurricanes Harvey and Irma had displaced thousands of dogs, sending them to shelters in the northeastern United States, Darius understood something simple: those animals could not tell their stories, and they could not stand out among identical cages. So he began sewing bow ties for them, one by one, so someone would look at them twice before continuing on their way.
Today, at 19 years old, he has already donated nearly 7.000 bow ties to shelters in the United States and the United Kingdom, through his Beaux & Paws company’s buy one, donate one model. His mission helped raise more than 500.000 dollars for animal causes, and letters of recognition arrived from the White House. It all began by giving visibility to those who have no way to ask for it.
