Michael and Ashton Kutcher were born just five minutes apart in Iowa in 1978.

But life did not treat them equally: Michael was born with cerebral palsy and a serious heart condition that stayed with him from childhood.

At age 13, Michael’s heart began to fail. Doctors said he had weeks to live if a transplant did not come in time.

Ashton, still a teenager, considered something few siblings would be willing to do: give his own heart to save his brother.

He did not leave his side in the hospital while the family waited for an answer that seemed never to come.

A donor appeared just in time. Michael survived, and today he takes the stage as a motivational speaker, talking about disability and the importance of organ donation.

Ashton, now a Hollywood star, has publicly acknowledged the guilt he carried for years for not speaking sooner about what his brother went through.
