Montana Brown was just 2 years old when cancer stole her childhood for the first time.
Rhabdomyosarcoma, the doctors at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center in Atlanta told her. After a year of chemotherapy, she achieved remission and grew up doing gymnastics and cheerleading, like any other girl. But at 15, just as she was starting high school, the cancer returned. Chemotherapy again, radiation therapy again, the same hospital walls she already knew by heart.
What she never forgot were the nurses who supported her through those frightening moments. They did more than heal: they were there for her. That lasting impression led her to study nursing with a clear goal, and on September 18, 2017, at 24, Montana walked through those doors at the Aflac Center once again—but this time in her own uniform, ready to tell every frightened child: I understand exactly how you feel.
