Maddox Chivan Jolie no longer bears his father’s surname.
A Los Angeles judge approved his petition on September 14, 2026, to remove ‘Pitt’ from his legal name, according to court documents. He is 25, was adopted by Angelina Jolie in Cambodia in 2002, and filed the request in May, simply citing the reason as ‘personal.’ He appeared by video call alongside his lawyer, and no one objected.
This is not an isolated case: his sister Shiloh did the same in 2024 upon turning 18, and Zahara and Vivienne already publicly use ‘Jolie’ as they pursue their own legal proceedings. Only Pax, 23, and Knox still retain Brad Pitt’s surname.
Sources close to Pitt claim that Angelina distanced the children from him over the years, and that Maddox’s testimony in the custody dispute did not help him. Ten years after that flight that broke the family, the distance continues to be written, child by child.
