Marcos was just 7 years old when his father handed him over to an elderly goatherd in Sierra Morena. When the goatherd died, the boy was left completely alone in the mountains of Córdoba. There was no one to feed him, no one to teach him to speak, no one to care for him. So he learned from those who were there: a pack of wolves.
For more than a decade, he lived among them, ate what they ate, and survived as one more member of the pack, until the Civil Guard found him as a teenager, dressed in skins and barely able to utter words.
His story reached the ears of anthropologist Gabriel Janer Manila, who wrote the book ‘I Have Played with Wolves’, and years later inspired the film ‘Among Wolves’, where Marcos himself worked as an adviser to recreate his own childhood on screen. 🐺 He spent his final years in Rante, Ourense, far from the mountains that shaped him. He died on August 15 at the age of 80, leaving behind one of the most astonishing survival stories known in Spain.
