A Navy veteran and lung cancer survivor should be resting, but at 85 he travels the streets delivering food.
He is Bert Coffen. Along with his 81-year-old wife Rae, he goes out every week to deliver Uber Eats orders in Florida. The reason? A retirement that vanished amid hip surgeries and his wife’s dementia treatment. The reality is that, after serving his country, this hero has to work 3 to 5 days to earn barely between 100 and 150 dollars a week.
Even after suffering falls that left him with black eyes while delivering an order, Bert keeps going so as not to “sit and wait for the inevitable”. It’s a slap of reality.
Working until the last breath just to pay medical bills. Fortunately, the online community is making donations through GoFundMe so Bert can retire from Uber.
