ADAM is the male contraceptive method developed by the biotech company Contraline that works without hormones: a hydrogel injected directly into the vas deferens physically blocks the passage of sperm. In the first phase of the clinical trial, conducted in Australia with 25 volunteers, none showed sperm in their samples for up to 24 months, with no serious adverse effects reported.
Those celebrating it point out that for decades the contraceptive burden fell almost exclusively on women. Skeptics, meanwhile, question injecting an experimental hydrogel into such sensitive areas.
