The San Diego Humane Society is leading a massive operation on a 16-hectare property called Villa Chardonnay Horses With Wings near Julian.
At this chilling place, more than 350 cats were discovered, along with 165 horses and ponies, as well as 30 dogs, living in conditions of extreme neglect and abandonment. This grim discovery occurred on April 24, 2026, after a critical case of compulsive animal hoarding was identified.
Many of the animals were suffering from severe malnutrition and infections such as ringworm and giardiasis without receiving medical care. Due to their advanced physical deterioration, specialists had to humanely euthanize 4 horses and a bull to spare them further suffering.
